Neuropsychological Evaluations

We conduct neuropsychological evaluations with preschool-age children through young adults. Each comprehensive assessment provides detailed information about your child’s cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This includes your child’s personal strengths, as well as areas of vulnerability that may be interfering with their success.

Specific domains assessed typically include intellectual functioning, attention, executive functioning, processing speed, language, visual-spatial and visual-motor skills, learning and memory, academic abilities, social-emotional development, and adaptive functioning. The assessment is tailored to your individual child to best answer referral questions and be of greatest use to your family.

While neuropsychological evaluations certainly include the use of formal test measures, these results are integrated with a wide variety of other information sources. This helps us develop a thorough picture of your child and explain why they may be experiencing specific challenges. We then develop a specific action plan to address these challenges, enhance your child’s strengths, and set them up for lasting success.

These evaluations include an in-depth interview to review your child’s history, review of pertinent records, discussion with outside school personnel and providers as needed, comprehensive testing, a follow-up meeting to discuss the results of the evaluation and recommendations (including specific, detailed recommendations for school services and supports when indicated), and a written report that is designed to be informative and accessible to families, schools, and other treatment providers. Additional follow-up appointments can be scheduled as needed to help your family navigate your child’s action plan.

Admissions Testing

IQ assessments are available to formally document your child’s current intellectual functioning, as required by some private schools and gifted and talented programs.

School Meetings & Classroom Observations

We are available to attend Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, and other school service meetings. Your neuropsychologist can discuss the results and recommendations of your child’s evaluation with you and your school team and help you advocate for your child’s learning and social-emotional needs. Additionally, we are available to observe your child’s classroom. This can help us better assess your child’s learning needs and the goodness of fit of their current academic placement. These services are available in conjunction with a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation.

Consultations

We are available to consult with families, schools, and other professionals around a child’s developmental, academic, social, and emotional needs. We also consult with schools and athletic teams around concussion recognition, management, and recovery.
